A Fantastic Night as The Swing Cats Close Out Boyle Arts Festival

the swing cats

What a way to bring a cracking festival to a close, altogether.

On Saturday, 25th July, The Swing Cats had the honour of playing the closing concert of the 2026 Boyle Arts Festival at the wonderful St. Joseph’s Hall in Boyle. It was a truly special night, and one we’ll be talking about for a long time to come.

Some gigs you play. Others you live in for the whole night, and this was one of those, no question. From the second the band hit the stage, the atmosphere was electric. St. Joseph’s Hall was packed out with music, laughter, dancing, and a crowd that gave us as warm a welcome as we’ve had all year. There’s something brilliant about playing for a room that’s already up for it, and the people of Boyle certainly knew how to make it a night to remember.

An Honour to Close Such a Respected Festival

The Boyle Arts Festival has built a fantastic name for itself over the years, bringing together outstanding music, theatre, literature, comedy, and visual arts, all under one roof, over ten glorious days. It’s the sort of festival people plan their summer around, and fair play to them for it.

Getting the nod to close it out with our big band show was a real privilege, and not something we took lightly. Closing night carries a bit of weight – you’re the last act people hear before the whole thing wraps up for another year, and you want that final memory to be the one everyone’s still talking about on the road home. Judging by the racket in the room by the end of the set, we’d like to think we did the job.

Sharing the stage at such a well-respected event, alongside ten days of top-class theatre, literature, comedy, and visual arts, was a genuine honour for every one of us in the band. It’s the kind of booking that reminds you why this job is worth doing in the first place. If you’re wondering what a Swing Cats theatre or festival show actually looks like, our theatre shows page gives a good flavour of the big-room craic we love best.

A Crowd That Was Ready to Go

Every audience has its own character, and Boyle’s was one of the best we’ve played to in a good while. Our set mixes modern contemporary songs with swing classics from the Great American Songbook, put together to get every generation up on the floor together – and that’s exactly what happened on the night. Grannies, mams, dads, and young ones alike were all up dancing side by side, singing along word for word.

That mix of old and new is really what we’re about, no matter the occasion. If you fancy a look at the kind of songs that had St. Joseph’s Hall bouncing, our setlist page runs through the swing standards and modern hits we love pulling together into a set.

Behind Every Great Night Is a Great Team

A huge thank you goes out to the Boyle Arts Festival organisers, the volunteers, the technical crew, and everyone working away behind the scenes who put the hours in to make the whole thing such a success. Festivals like Boyle Arts thrive because of people like that, who rarely get a mention from the stage, and it was a genuine pleasure to be part of something built with so much care.

Anyone who’s ever had a hand in putting on an event, big or small, knows the truth of it well. The crowd sees ninety minutes of music and dancing. What they don’t see is the months of planning, the sound checks, the logistics, and the graft that goes into making a night look effortless. We saw plenty of that graft in Boyle, and we’re genuinely grateful to have been handed the closing slot of such a well-loved festival.

And, Most Importantly, Thanks to Boyle Itself

Most importantly of all, thank you to everyone who came out on the night. Whether you were dancing in the aisles, belting out the classics, or just soaking up the atmosphere from your seat, ye’re the ones who turned a good show into an unforgettable finale. Ten days of arts and culture is no small feat, and it takes exactly the kind of crowd Boyle brought along to send it off in style.

We say this after most gigs, but we mean it every single time – an audience makes the night. Boyle made it, and then some.
